Our Hair Is thick and strong. At times it can present challenges when trying to care for it and achieve the styles we like. At times, our hair can dictate our lifestyle and when we are tired of being ruled, we choose styles that give us a “hands off” approach. However, several of us choose the ponytail. You know the ponytail I’m speaking of. You brush your edges and gather your hair at the top of your head and put it in a ponytail. You then add water, gel, and/or mousse to slick your edges down. You don’t brush the hair at the crown of your head. You take a “hands off” approach without wearing a hands off style.
Before going to any salon…you MUST brush your hair daily, completely and thoroughly. This is not to say vigorously and for minutes at a time. Although hair brushing is basic, this is critical for hair growth, scalp and hair health. Brushing your hair provides the following benefits to your hair and scalp:
- Brushing your hair removes loose strands and other particles that can catch in your hair.
- Your hair has memory, brushing your hair is “communicating” to your hair what you’d like it to do.
- Brushing your hair correctly, stimulates your scalp which can promote hair growth.
Before doing anything with your hair, you must start by brushing it. Consider your hair brushed and detangled when you can take a brush or a wide tooth comb through your tresses. Once you’re able to do that and your hair is clean, you are then ready to visit your salon or style your hair for the day.
Remember: You cannot rely on your visits to the hair salon to be the primary contributor to your hair health. Your hair salon only aids in the treatment of your hair. You have to take care of your hair outside of the salon and over time to achieve a healthy scalp and hair strand.
